Brad Taylor travels a lot. As author of the New York Times bestselling Pike Logan series, he has gone on twelve research trips since 2010, and he always brings back a good story: an unregistered cab ride through the black markets of Tepito in Mexico City, getting the side-eye while prying into the Pope’s schedule at the Vatican, or missing his flight home from Hong Kong because he was busy gambling in Macau.

For his upcoming book OPERATOR DOWN (on-sale January 9th), Brad was poking around the countryside of Lesotho, Africa, when he and his guide were detained by a counter-intelligence unit for “spying” on the Lesotho Special Forces base. With dozens of photos of decidedly non-touristy landmarks on his phone, a retired military ID card, and no plausible explanation for his being there, Taylor certainly looked like a spy.  But after nearly seven hours of solitary interrogation, he and the guide were finally released, with all the ammo needed for a great scene, and enough information to inform his plot.

All in a day’s work for an author who takes authenticity and accuracy to the next level. Since the beginning of his career, Taylor has been praised for his unwavering commitment to absolute attention to detail—readers won’t find a street name, hotel, or bar that doesn’t exist in real life in a Pike Logan book (and many have tried). Unlike his peers, Taylor’s eye for accuracy stems from his twenty-one years in the Army Infantry and Special Forces, including eight years in Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta.

Since retiring in 2010, Taylor’s counter-intelligence operations live mostly on the page, using his expertise to inform the actions of Pike Logan, Jennifer Cahill, and the entire Task Force, an extra-legal counter-terrorism unit charged with defending the United States and its allies.

OPERATOR DOWN opens with Israeli operators, and series fan favorites, Shoshana and Aaron, who have been tasked with tracking a merchant in the fabled Israeli Diamond Exchange. Formerly a leader of an elite team under Mossad, Aaron is now working as a contractor, so when he disappears without a trace while tailing his asset, there is no one but Shoshana to help.

Meanwhile, Pike and his team are following an American arms dealer in Tel Aviv who may be attempting to sell sensitive nuclear weapons components to the highest bidder. When The Task Force breaks up an attempt to kill Shoshana, they stumble into more than they expected—a conspiracy to topple a democratic African country. Pike is forced to choose between his Israeli friends and his Task Force mission, even as the execution of the coup begins to form.

Readers who have become accustomed to a new Pike Logan novel every six months will be clamoring to get their hands on OPERATOR DOWN, Taylor’s first since January 2017, while those new to the series will be pleased to find they can easily jump in, even at book twelve.
